Last night I spent most of my time waiting, but despite the good efforts of people trying to keep me up (i’m so not a nocturnal person) I fell asleep just before Gen arrived. She was supposed to call me through whatsapp so I would wake up and wait for her downstairs. But she couldn’t get online and so at some point, when I was deeply asleep… I heard knocking on my door… and there she was. Reunited while she was jetlagged and I was sleepy. HUG, laughter and such a great feeling!

We had a beer and cigarette on the balcony and after an hour we went to sleep… of course she could sleep (which was great) and I laid awake for an hour or so (a little less great).

We woke up at 8 and  Gen was so not in this world. After breakfast and some coffee we packed up grabbed a cab and headed for the port where we caught a ferry to Bohol. Now there are many different ferries… the one we took was cheap, but didn’t take us to our final destination… we had to ride a bus. On the other hand it was an experience.. I decided to give Gen a crash course in my style of travel.. and she loved it!

So after the ferry we got on a trycicle and headed for the bus station where we jumped onto a local bus taking us to Tagbilaran. All good so far. The busride was very bumpy, but very fast as well. We enjoyed the landscape and finally saw some ricefields. After arriving on the busstation in Tagbilaran we first had a cigarette  and I really needed to go to the toilet… the lady warned us that is was dirty… but with no electricity there also was no water… well… when you’ve got to go there’s no choosing.

We walked to a close mall where they told us we could get a taxi.. this cab was ridiculously expensive, but they don’t do meter taxi’s on this island. We arrived at our final destination, which is a lovely garden inn. After checking in and unpacking some of our stuff we headed back down. I got a chance to do some laundry for a reasonable price, we wanted to rent a motorbike and plan to leave for 1 night and then come back.. All is arranged and we headed for Alona beach. A 10 minute drive to the big touristy centre. Gen almost squeezed me to dead, for about 10 meters and then relaxed. We got some stuff and walked around. After spending the days between Philipinos, even Gen had fun with mentioning that there was another white person.

We had to look around to find a reasonable place to eat and ended up enoying garlic rice and chicken… I could so live here! We walked down the beach untill happy hour and then enjoyed our celebratory cocktails! It’s so nice to be on the road with Gen again!

On the way back it was raining so hard that I was soaked and dripping when we got back. A hot shower and now the electricity is back on.. which means we can get online. And we’ve made some plans for the next 2 days. We’re going to leave our big luggage here and drive across the island on the motorbike… there might be some SUPping on a river, diving but definitely chocolate hills and tarsiers (spookdiertjes). Then spent a night on the other side of the island and drive back on Monday… what are we going to do when it rains? Well… put on our rainjackets and keep going. Nothing can stop us!
